why do some bitcoin transactions take so long to confirm?

i made a deposit at a bitcoin casino this morning that requires 1 confirmation before the btc appears in your account. normally this happens within 10 to 20 minutes but it has been 9 hours now and i'm still waiting. i contacted support but they told me there was nothing they could do.

why do some bitcoin transactions take forever to confirm?

both bitcoin and bitcoin cash are using the same sha256 so miners can switch between the two chains depending on which is more profitable. when the bitcoin price goes up, miners switch from bcash to bitcoin and then transactions take forever to process. for example, yesterday it took over 1.5 hours to find a block. it's definitely cheaper than bitcoin but i'm not sure it's faster like they claim.
